Upper School Leadership Team
Students, faculty and staff eased into the new year by taking part in the first Fun Friday of 2026, connecting with one another by playing a variety of tech-free wellbeing games. Monday’s Principal’s Assembly further developed on this theme by focusing on new beginnings. The community heard from a Lang Scholar and member of the Wellbeing Council, in addition to one of our faculty Wellbeing Coordinators, about the importance of resetting goals and practicing healthy habits. Speakers highlighted the key role of having a system in place to help centre oneself and help you strive towards being a better version of yourself, and recharge one's energy to achieve these goals.
The past week offered several meaningful opportunities for interaction between older and younger students in the Upper School. Year 11 mentors connected with their mentees during Fun Friday through a short game and conversation, while Year 12 students led an Advising Q&A session with Year 9. In addition, a group of students from Year 10 and below presented a proposal for a new initiative to the Board of Stewards, demonstrating strong student voice and leadership across year levels. Together, these moments reinforce a culture of mentorship, collaboration, and shared responsibility that strengthens community life across the Upper School. With student elections upcoming for Year 11 students, Fiona Marshall, director of the Lang Leadership Lab, presented on what leadership means at the College. The focus of the message was leadership as a practice, not a position. It was well-received by our future student leaders.
The course selection site for the 2026–27 academic year opened Tuesday, Jan. 13 for students entering Years 9, 10 and 11. Students will make selections in their Bluenet account.

Thank you to everyone who attended the Year 11 Course Information Evening on Tuesday, Jan. 13. We hope that the information shared by our Diploma Programme Coordinator, University Counselling Office and the Assistant Head of the Upper School offered valuable insight into what to expect for your student next year.
For any parents unable to attend, please review a recording of the evening presentation as well as the slide deck used during the session.
We are excited to continue the learning journey with your student as they prepare to enter Year 11 at UCC.
Sincerely,
Director of Academics
Dear UCC Community,
Thank you for supporting the Open Ice Initiative! Because of your incredible support, this year’s Hockey FUNdamentals Camp was a huge success. Your contributions allowed us to provide:
32 camper‑days of free programming
28 hours of instruction per child, focused on skill‑building, teamwork, and confidence
Full sets of hockey equipment for each child to keep
For those new to our program, the Open Ice Initiative provides children from under‑privileged families with completely free access to organized hockey. Our camp offered young players on‑ice instruction, skill development, and a supportive environment to grow both on and off the ice.
These experiences gave children the opportunity to try organized hockey for the first time, creating lasting memories and building self-confidence. The impact of your support has been remarkable, and we continue to hear from families about how meaningful this camp was for their children. More information and photos about the initiative is available at open-ice.org.
Looking ahead: Expanding our reach for future camps
Building on this success, we hope to welcome even more children in the program and continue providing fully funded programming that gives children a safe and supportive environment to grow.
If you would like to help make this possible, donations can be made here, and you can apply to volunteer here.
Your support bridges the gap between opportunity and access, and we are deeply grateful to have such a generous and engaged community behind this initiative.
With gratitude,
Andrew Adair, Year 10 Student
Founder, Open Ice Initiative
