Boarding community weekends are held three times in the year and are designed to create opportunities for fun, learning, service, and time to bond as a community.
On Friday evening, 21 boarders accompanied by Ms. Kennedy and Ms. Jinha, travelled to SkyZone, a popular trampoline park located near the College. They enjoyed games of basketball and dodgeball on trampoline floors and returned to UCC for a casual dinner from Dave’s Hot Chicken, a popular restaurant in the city.
On Saturday, boarders cheered on the U15 Hockey Team play a home game at the Wilder Arena, followed by the Snowball Dinner and Social hosted by UCC Boarding! Students from the three nearby all-girls schools —Branksome Hall, Havergal College, and the Bishop Strachan School – attended the event. Supported by Ms. Jinha and Ms. Borsoi, a group of boarders formed a committee comprised of Year 9 students Fahad and Owen, and Year 10 students Conover and Hashim, who made snowflake decorations, organized icebreaker activities, and chose a delicious dinner of make-your-own-tacos and an ice-cream sundae bar that Aramark prepared. Guests also made snowglobes and an impromptu game of musical chairs ended the night.
On Sunday, the Identity Workshops Series was launched with a presentation from the National Council of Canadian Muslims over brunch and conversations about stereotypes and narratives versus storytelling. Boarders then participated in a Bags to Beds service learning session where they helped to weave together mats that are donated to community organizations that support unhoused people in Toronto.
The weekend ended with an exciting game of Rao Cup Trivia where boarders competed in year groups against each other on topics ranging from geography to math and popular culture. Congratulations to Seaton’s for winning this round!
