As you consider a year-end donation to the UCC Fund, we invite you to consider one of the most tax-efficient ways to support Upper Canada College — by donating publicly traded securities.
Donating appreciated stocks, bonds or mutual funds is a powerful strategy that offers significant benefits to both you and the school.
Why donate securities?
Eliminate capital gains tax: When you sell appreciated securities, you are typically required to pay capital gains tax on the increase in value. By donating them directly to Upper Canada College, you entirely bypass this tax and maximize the value of your donation.
Receive a tax receipt: You will receive a charitable tax receipt for the full fair market value of the securities on the date of the transfer.
Greater impact for students: The College receives the full value of the securities, which helps provide transformational learning experiences for students.
This simple process can turn potential tax liability into a substantial gift. If your portfolio holds appreciated assets, a gift of securities is often the most cost-effective way to make a difference.
To donate securities, download and complete our Gift of Securities form, then send it to tara.ross@scotiawealth.com. To ensure your gift is received and processed in time to receive a 2025 charitable tax receipt, the donation must be initiated before the end of business on Tuesday, Dec. 23.Â
If you have any questions about making a gift of securities or any other method of giving, please contact Peter Maddox at pmaddox@ucc.on.ca.
We are excited to share the video recording of our 2025 Casey Fellow Speaker Series event featuring Dr. Brendan K. Hartman!
If you missed his insightful presentation, How to Raise Connected Boys in a Disconnected World, or wish to revisit the valuable information shared, the full video from the Nov. 25 event is available here until Dec. 31.Â
The UCC community is invited to the Family Skate at the William P. Wilder ’40 Arena & Sports Complex on Sundays from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m.Â
Please note there is an out-date on Dec. 14 and will resume regularly afterwards, including during the winter break.Â
A friendly reminder that all skaters, regardless of age or skill level, must wear a helmet while on the ice.Â
Questions can be directed to Katarina Bojic.Â
Dear Families,
As the weather starts to cool down, cases of illness are rising.
As part of our commitment to maintaining a healthy school environment, we kindly ask that you keep your child at home if they're exhibiting any signs of illness. This not only supports your child's recovery but also helps protect our entire school community. For further information, you may review UCC’s Health Policy for Monitoring and Absence Due to Illness.
Your cooperation ensures a safer space for all students and staff. Thank you for your understanding and support in keeping our community healthy.
