A number of annual traditions took place over the past week. On Halloween, students and faculty dressed up in costume and participated in the house pumpkin carving contest — narrowly won by Martland’s House! The Board of Stewards hosted the annual Stewards’ Dance for Year 11 and 12 students, with guests from other schools joining in the fun. This year’s theme was “Hollywood” and students walked the red carpet as they entered for a night of food, music, and dancing.
On Wednesday night we held our annual Prize Day celebration of academic excellence. Prize winners and their families heard an inspiring speech from chair of mathematics Ms. Bina Evans and celebrated their accomplishments from the previous year. Year 8 students also had the opportunity to hear from Detective Corey Jones in a special advising session focused on cyberbullying.
The third Fun Friday of the year took place, with many offerings for students to recharge such as basketball, bracelet making, and board games. Additionally, two special activities were offered: a Cuban Rhythms and Hand Percussion Workshop in the Student Centre as well as the house soccer finals. An enthusiastic turnout occurred at both and it was a most memorable morning indeed.
As we head into a well-deserved long weekend parents and guardians are reminded about the three-way conferences next Tuesday and Wednesday. These conferences are an opportunity to check in with teachers to learn more about student progress since September. We look forward to our virtual day on Tuesday and/or welcoming families to campus for appointments on Wednesday. For those who have not signed up yet with SchoolCloud, there will be further informatio and a link to do so in an article below.
The three-way conferences at the Upper School are next week on Nov. 12 and 13. If you have not yet registered, please do so below.
We are pleased to introduce our new registration platform for three-way conferences, SchoolCloud.
Nov. 12 | Virtual only: Each virtual meeting will be five minutes.
Nov. 13 | In-person only: Each meeting will be five minutes long with five minutes of travel time in between meetings.
Please do not book more than one appointment per teacher.
Preparing for your appointments
Once you have scheduled your appointments, please check your email inbox for a confirmation from SchoolCloud with your credentials. This will ensure you are able to join your appointment at the scheduled time(s). If you do not see the email, you may need to check your spam folder. Reminder emails will be sent closer to the dates.
Click here to schedule your three-way conference meetings. The registration link will remain open until Monday, Nov. 11 at 12 p.m.
Note: When registering, you will need to enter your name and your child’s name exactly as it appears in BlueNet.
Generally, only one parent/guardian books all the meetings, as they will then invite the other parent/guardian to join the scheduled meetings. For more on how to do this and how to sign up for meetings, please visit the BlueNet Resource Board.
For the virtual day on Nov. 12, if your child will not be with you in person, you may forward your confirmation email to him to join independently using the link.

We have surveyed students and faculty about their Week Without Bells experience. This important feedback allows us to continue to enhance our Week Without Bells programming.
As parents and guardians, we'd like to hear feedback from your perspective. If you're interested in providing feedback (both positive feedback and/or areas for growth) please do so here.
Starting next week we will be hosting assessment skates for the following teams for the 25/26 season. Each of these teams is a full-time commitment with the season starting in September and ending in mid-March. The U15 and U16 teams will predominantly play within the GTHL/OMHA and some travel to the US. The Varsity 1 team travels extensively between Canada and the United States.
U15 AAA (2011/2012)
U16 AAA (2010/2011)
Varsity 1 (2008/2009/2010)
If you are interested in being invited out for a skate please fill out this form and one of our coaches will follow up with the scheduled opportunities once your response is reviewed.
Please understand that this is a very competitive process and there are limited spots available on each team. Aside from the high character student athletes, we are currently looking at students that play specific positions and ability levels that currently fits with the needs of each of these teams.
We encourage you to follow our UCC hockey Instagram page (@ucchockey1829) for more information and schedules.
On Monday, Nov. 18 from 1:30–4 p.m. in the Upper School Student Centre, 12 + local Volunteer Service Organizations from the GTA will be exhibiting and presenting opportunities for volunteer involvement in our community. This promises to be a very enlightening and interactive event. Please contact Mr. Sweetman if you are interested in participating and require any further details.
Following the Volunteer Service Expo and in conjunction with our UCC Upper School Parent Organization we will be hosting a virtual Parent Information and Q+A Session from 7–8 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 18. This is intended to answer all your questions about service initiatives and tracking of student experiences at the Upper School. Please watch for the Zoom link to participate.
Parents, we need your help for two Festive Marketplace featured events. We’re looking for donations for the Festive Online Auction and Snowball Grab.
Festive Online Auction
We’d be thrilled to receive donations, such as tickets for sports, concerts and other events, gift cards and unique experiences, behind-the-scenes tours to interesting places, and meet-and-greets with famous people.
Let’s make this year’s Festive Auction just as successful as last years’ auction! If you or someone you know are interested in donating, please complete this online form or email festive@uccpo.ca.
Snowball Grab
This is a favourite tradition where students have a chance to grab a “snowball” and win a prize. Tickets are $5 and all players win gift cards in the $5 to $40 range. There are also grand prizes, including Apple AirPods!
We’re still collecting gift card donations to make this activity a success, and we need your help. We’re looking for gift card donations in the $5 to $40 range from Starbucks, Tim Hortons, Sport Chek, EB Games, Best Buy, Cineplex, etc. The more donated gift cards we receive, the more the students will be able to play.
Please write the value of the gift cards on them and drop them off in the collection box at the Prep reception. Thank you!
Want to support the Festive Marketplace but aren’t sure what to donate? You can send a monetary donation using e-transfer which will be used to purchase auction items and gift cards on your behalf. Please send monetry donations by e-transfer to treasurer@uccprepparents.ca. Please write “Festive” in the note.
All proceeds from Festive Marketplace and Festive Auction are used by our Parent Organizations for special initiatives that provide positive enhancements for our students.

Dear UCC Community,
I’m thrilled to announce a special fundraising event on World Diabetes Day on Nov. 14, in collaboration with JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation) to support type 1 diabetes research.
My name is Charlie Walsh, and as a Year 12 student living with type 1 diabetes, this cause is incredibly close to my heart. As a student-athlete with type 1 diabetes, there is no way I would be able to participate in activities and sports, or even live the life that I live, without all the research, technology and innovation that JDRF has helped fund. This fundraiser means so much to me, and I hope it will inspire our community to come together and help spread awareness about type 1 diabetes.
Event Details:
10 spin bikes
10 houses
10 teams
50 athletes go head-to-head for UCC’s Battle of the Bikes
Format: This is a relay-style spin bike challenge featuring ten spin bikes. Each house will nominate one participant per grade (five total across Years 8-12), and participants will take turns riding for five minutes each. The house that rides the furthest in 25 minutes will win a prize and earn house points!
Fundraising: Support your house! Donations can be made directly under each house team's page here: donate. This friendly competition aims to see which house can raise the most funds for T1D research.
How you can help:
1. Donate: We kindly ask parents who are looking to contribute to donate here. Ensure your donation is credited to your son’s house.
2. Sponsorships: We have exclusive opportunities to showcase your company and demonstrate your support for this important cause. If you or someone you know is interested in sponsoring, please don't hesitate to reach out to me.
