Upper School Leadership Team
Winterfest was undoubtedly the highlight of the past week in the Upper School. The school had a special schedule on Friday allowing the student body to gather and show their school spirit in cheering on many of our winter sports teams. Winterfest kicked off with a pep rally in Laidlaw Hall where the Blue Army Generals got everyone excited by showing highlight reels of our teams and the entire student body sang “Never Walk Alone.” Earlier in the day, the Year 8 hockey team played an exciting game against the Year 7 team, which ended in a tie. The gym was packed as the varsity basketball team lost a nailbiter, with tremendous energy from the fans in the room. The U16 basketball team then posted an impressive win in a hard fought battle to conclude the basketball portion of Winterfest.
In the evening, the stands were packed to cheer on the varsity hockey team. They battled a tough opponent in a back-and-forth game. Eventually, it went to a shoot-out with the Blues winning in dramatic fashion! The under 15 hockey team finished off an exciting Winterfest with a decisive 7-0 victory, displaying excellent sportsmanship and skill.
Monday’s assembly featured guest speaker Detective Corey Jones, an experienced detective with the Toronto Police Service and current UCC parent. He spoke to the student body about the dangers and challenges that artificial intelligence can bring to online safety, and gave tips on how to stay safe.
Applications for the IB DP Systems Transformation Pathway and the IB DP Courses Pathway are due by Friday, Jan. 31. Any Year 10 students interested in applying for either pathway who have not yet had a course selection meeting or received an application should contact their UCO Counsellor as soon as possible.
