Upper School Leadership Team
The Upper School saw many examples of student leadership this week, including the first student assembly of the year where volunteers participated in the annual spelling bee, and in the Principal’s Assembly dedicated to learning and leadership. Here, grade-level representatives from Years 8 through 12 reflected on their roles, the experiences of their year, and the values of the College in a series of presentations and a video. Across the board, they demonstrated thoughtfulness, empathy and curiosity — traits highlighted by Year-Level Coordinators Mr. Jugoon and Mr. Paschalidis in their introduction. Principal McKinney offered a warm welcome to the new year, and Mr. MacDougall spoke about his gratitude and enthusiasm entering the role of Head of School next year.
The Prefects’ Cup kicked off the new year with House Trivia, a competition for all students. On Tuesday, in advising, Year 11 and 8 groups joined together for mentorship and to reconnect following the holiday break. Similarly, Year 9 and Year 12 advising groups got together to engage in programming designed to practice active listening and deep conversation.
This week our IB Coordinators also held our course selection information evenings for MYP and DP students and families. The links to the recordings are available to view below.
The Upper School will be participating in UCC’s Winterfest tomorrow, Friday, Jan. 17. This is a day to show our school spirit and support our diverse athletic teams. Many of our students and colleagues will be taking part by attending games scheduled throughout the day and wearing blue and white spirit gear. The game schedule is posted under Whole School, Athletics.
We're very excited to celebrate this special day with our Prep community! Year 4 and 5 students will join us at the Upper School for a basketball game, and in the afternoon there will be a Year 7 and 8 hockey game in the William P. Wilder ’40 Arena & Sports Complex. We look forward to cheering together while building our community and making memories.
We hope to see our students celebrating their school spirit during Winterfest!
