Students did a wonderful job of engaging in last week’s Three-Way Conferences, identifying areas of pride and celebration, as well as those of growth. These experiences were important touch points as well for teachers, advisers and families. Returning to classes from the Family Day Long Weekend, students have a good sense of next steps along their learning journey. Rivalry Week kicked off on Tuesday, with each day organized by theme beginning with Twin Day and moving into the 90's, Students and Teachers Swap, and finishing on Friday with Anything But a Backpack Day. Engaging and community-building activities throughout the week include musical chairs, dodgeball, trivia, tug of war and a service initiative.Â
Playoffs and championships begin for our winter sports teams this week, including squash, hockey, basketball, swimming and skiing. We wish them all the best at this exciting time of the year!
On Wednesday, Feb. 26, Years 8–11 students will write the Waterloo math contest at 10:30 a.m. Please remind your child to make sure that their computer is fully charged as the contest will be taken online.Â
Year 12 students will not be writing the contest and will either have a spare or will be helping with supervising the contest.
Midway on our life’s journey, I found myselfÂ
In dark woods, the right road lost. To tellÂ
About those woods is hard —so tangled and rough…
UCC and BSS co-curricular theatre are proud to present: Inferno
Join us on the journey of a lost traveller who is guided through the underworld by Virgil, a poet from ancient Rome.Â
The production adheres to the order of Dante Allegehri’s nine circles of hell, but in our imagining we've subjected William Shakespeare's greatest villains, sinners, and miscreants to eternal damnation.Â
The play is an original project developed and directed by Anna Blagona and Julian Bauld and involves over twenty actors from BSS and UCC whose talent and determination have built a world that is disturbing, heartwarming, funny, and, ultimately, comforting. It's a great introduction to two literary giants, and the action is staged on a set constructed by Terry Denstedt whose complex design is much like entering a painting by MC Escher.
Date: Feb. 27, 28, and March 1
Where: David Chu TheatreÂ
Tickets are $15 and can be purchased at the door or by contacting Julian Bauld.Â
All performances begin at 7 p.m. and the show will run just over an hour.
We hope to see you there!Â
The Arts Booster Club (ABC) is thrilled to announce an enchanting evening of magic and wonder. We’re delighted to welcome Ben and Jonah, the talented magicians from the renowned Toronto Magic Company (TMC), to perform a 90-minute magic show at UCC.
