UCC has been celebrating Earth Week 2025 with a schedule of exciting and meaningful events each day dedicated to environmental action, awareness, and sustainability. Organized by student leaders and supported by faculty and staff, the week brought the community together to reflect on the importance of protecting our planet and taking practical steps toward a greener future.
There's been a range of engaging activities to promote energy conservation and environmental awareness. Students attended workshops on climate leadership, sustainable design, and biodiversity. The week concludes with tomorrow's vibrant farmer’s market showcasing eco-conscious vendors, local artisans, and student-led environmental initiatives.
A special Monday assembly included reflections from our Sustainability Steward on the past year’s initiatives, as well as a guest speaker who offered inspiration in environmental science, activism, and policy.
Earth Week at UCC not only highlighted the school’s commitment to environmental stewardship, but also empowered students to become changemakers in their own communities. It was a powerful reminder that caring for the planet is a collective effort—and that every action, no matter how small, can make a lasting impact.
Year 8 parents and guardians had the opportunity to attend an information evening to hear from UCC faculty and staff about the Upper School including student wellbeing, school balance and our AI policy. They also heard from a Year 12 panel of Stewards who shared their own learning journeys and offered guidance to the Year 8 community, including words of wisdom about the importance of being kind to oneself and taking time to find your passions.
On Wednesday we welcomed our Connor Chair, Liz Kleinrock, an educator with expertise in pluralism who worked with a variety of our student groups to enhance their understanding of pluralism in our community.
You're invited to an unforgettable evening of smooth rhythms and soulful melodies at our Jazz Night Concert!
Join us tomorrow night at 7 p.m. in the David Chu Theatre as we celebrate the incredible talents of our musicians and honour our Leaving Class members.
Come and enjoy a night of great jazz music, memories, and heartfelt farewells!
For Year 9 and 10 families, please join us on Tuesday, May 6 from 6:30–8 p.m. in the Manucha-Bellamy Theater for an engaging evening focused on teenage wellbeing.
Our speakers, Caitlin Dobie (Upper School Counsellor) and Lincoln Smith (Innovation & Technology Coach), will share insights from their respective professional perspectives, followed by a Q&A session to open up conversation and connection.
After the talk, enjoy a relaxed social gathering with light refreshments — a great opportunity to meet other parents and staff. Click on the link to RSVP. We hope to see you there.
For more information, please contact Dr. Katherine Maloney, Year 9 coordinator, or Ms. Sarah Khalanski, Year 10 coordinator.
With UCC's single largest service event, COSSOT Relay for Life (RFL), taking place on May 1, we wanted to provide some information on what has been come to be known as: the service event of the year!
If you want to enjoy food, fun, entertainment and breaking records while supporting the Canadian Cancer Society, then the RFL is for you! Our goal this year is to raise $200,000 and we need your help to get there.
Signup ends in two days, so now is the time. Grab some friends or join a team already formed and get ready to have fun while raising money for a good cause!
For the 7th year in a row, UCC has partnered with the other COSSOT schools to host an incredible event to raise funds for the Canadian Cancer Society to aid with cancer research. Participants will raise money by participating in relays with over 1000 other attendees.
At RFL you can expect great company from other schools, unique and exhilarating entertainment and some tasty refreshments. Past years have included food trucks, dunk tanks, sports, live entertainment, VIP tents and even a mechanical bull. Our team of great minds and dedicated volunteers are hard at work to produce a fantastic day for all the participants.
If you have any questions regarding the event, please email Jai Sandhu '25, Jack Meyers '25, or Mr. Sweetman.

A reminder to Year 12 parents/guardians, that students must return their school-owned laptop and the Apple 30W power supply and charging cable before they graduate.
It's recommended that Year 12 students return their school-issued laptop and power supply after their last exam, but the devices must be returned before the Leaving Class Ceremony on May 23. Both the laptop and the power supply must be dropped off at the Upper School Help Desk between 8 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. on weekdays. The deadline is Friday, May 23 at 3:30 p.m. Students must ensure all files are backed up.
The laptop must be returned in its case, in good condition. Any damage beyond normal wear and tear that is not covered under AppleCare+ for Schools will be billed to the UCC student account. Stickers must be removed from the laptop to avoid potential charges due to excessive sticker residue.
Please return the Apple 30W power supply and cable that was issued with the laptop. We only accept the small Apple branded 30W power supply. If the Apple branded power supply and charging cable is not returned, a replacement charge of $74 will be billed to your UCC student account.
Access to students Google Drive will be removed on July 31, 2025. Their Gmail account will remain active until Oct. 14, 2025. After Oct. 14 the UCC Google account will be deleted, and there will no longer be access to any stored emails.
Students are responsible for backing up all their files that are on your hard drive before returning the laptop. Once the laptops are returned, they will be wiped immediately, and there will not be another opportunity to access the files. Students can use Google Takeout to move content from the UCC Google environment before July 31, 2025.
Thank you in advance, and do not hesitate to contact me with any questions.

A PO and PPO initiative, we are encouraging any and all UCC parents/guardians to pick up a copy of The Tech Solution by Canadian Harvard-trained psychiatrist Dr. Shimi Kang.

Dear Year 8 Families,
Our sincere appreciation for those who were able to attend our Parent/Guardian Information Evening in the MB Theatre at the Upper School. It was wonderful to hear such thoughtful questions; our community is made so much stronger with your partnership, feedback and support. It was particularly moving to hear from our Year 12 students as they reflected on their journeys at UCC.
For those who were unable to join us, please see the slide deck here and the recording here.
We will send a resource document to Year 8 families soon with information about a few topics families have raised interest about, such as a reminder of our cell phone policy expectations. You are also welcome to ask any further questions on this Question Form, which we can also speak to in that resource.
With many thanks,
Hello families of Outdoor Adventurers!

The cost per student (assuming 16 students) will be $626.30
If you are interested in coming, please complete the permission form here. Permission forms are due May 9 by lunch, and the trip will be filled on a first come, first served basis. We can only accommodate 16 students, so please have your permission form filled out ASAP.
