Dear Year 8 families,
We are excited to invite all of the Year 8 students to participate with their Year 11 mentors on October 11 at Norval Outdoor School for the day with a focus on wellbeing skills. The trip will intentionally teach self-management and mindfulness skills — life skills for school and beyond. Students will engage in outdoor activities and mindfulness and self-management training inside Stephen House.
Students will depart by bus from Upper Canada College on October 11 at 8 a.m. from the north entrance. Each house will start at different points in the schedule and rotate through different activities. We will return to UCC by bus between 3:30 to 4 p.m. If the buses are going to be more than 15-20 minutes late, we will send out a communication to families. The Norval Outdoor School will provide lunch and snacks for all students.
Students are permitted to bring their phones on the bus, though our gaming policy still applies and they will be asked to not use them at Norval.
Please fill out the permission form and view the day trip packing list.
We look forward to welcoming the Year 8s and Year 11 mentors to Norval next week!
Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions.
On Tuesday, Oct. 10 in advising, Year 8 students will be given the opportunity to fill out an application for a Toronto Public Library (TPL) card. All students who attend UCC are eligible for a card.
UCC students are routinely encouraged to use the TPL, in addition to our school libraries, to support their growth as readers and researchers. A TPL card gives them access to print collections across the system and to numerous research databases and ebooks. Student research endeavours across the curriculum frequently benefit from access to these resources.
Please click on this sample TPL form for details on which personal information is collected by TPL, and for their statement regarding privacy. If, for privacy reasons, you do not wish your student to apply for a public library card please let us know by completing this short form by Oct 6.
If your student already has their own TPL card there is no need to apply again; an expired card can simply be taken to your local branch for renewal, or you can do so online here.
Thank you for your support with this initiative.

Grad photos will be taken on October 11, 12, 13 and 16. Please remind students to sign up for their grad photo (sheet has been shared with the Class of 2024).
We support those who want to take advantage of Take Your Child to Work Day (an initiative in Ontario for families/guardians with students in Year 9). For attendance purposes, please let the school know via the SchoolPass App if you are participating with your student.
Dear UCC Community,
Collection of items for The Sunflower Project will start on Tuesday, Oct. 10 in the Upper School. Each house has been assigned a category of items (please see below) which will be shipped to Ukraine and distributed to the battlefront, hospitals, orphanages, schools, charities, churches, and families in need. The house that collects the most will win house points and have its banner proudly displayed in Ukraine when the container arrives.

Dear Upper Canada College Community,
We are Alyan Hussein ’25 and Arslan Khudayar ’25, and we have organized an important initiative to support the victims of the recent devastating floods in Libya.
To make a meaningful impact, we have arranged a fundraising event where students can participate and contribute. On Tuesday during Flex Time, we will be selling a variety of delicious candies and snacks in the Student Centre. All the proceeds from these sales will be directed towards helping the affected communities in Libya.
Additionally, we have set up a GoFundMe page to facilitate online donations. Anyone can contribute directly here. No matter how small, every donation will make a difference in the lives of those affected by the floods. (Mr. Sweetman will confirm the receipt of donations being forwarded to the Red Cross Relief Efforts in Libya.)
We believe that the strength of our community lies in its ability to come together in times of need. Let’s show our solidarity and support for the people of Libya by participating in this fundraiser and spreading the word to others who might be interested in helping.
Thank you for your attention and generosity. Together, we can make a positive impact and bring hope to those facing adversity.

YETI mug
Parents have asked so the PO is delivering — UCC YETI mugs! The top of the line 24 oz. insulated drink cup keeps your beverages hot or cold for hours. Each mug is dishwasher safe, sturdy and, best of all, has the school slogan, Never Walk Alone inscribed on the side. There are only a limited number, so please order soon to avoid disappointment. The deadline for ordering is October 13 on UCC Marketplace for $60.
Puffers and vests
The PO has two new UCC-crested fall outerwear options available for purchase through UCC Marketplace.
The first is a fleece vest ($65), available in grey or navy. It’s soft, low-pill, mid-weight and is perfect for fall layering.
The second is a puffer jacket ($110), available in grey or navy. It has a removable hood, zip front pockets and is water-resistant.
In-person pick-up will be scheduled for late October at the hockey arena. Home delivery is available for an additional $20.
Please note the deadline for ordering is October 16. All funds raised from jacket sales go to the Parents’ Organization and its efforts to help enrich the experience of UCC Upper School students.
Please mark your calendars for Thursday, Oct. 12!
The Year 12 parent social will be held from 6:30–8:30 p.m. at the Roth-Oelbaum family home. We hope you can join us as we begin celebrating an important milestone year for our Year 12 boys.
