Dear UCC Community,
I’m writing to share that Dr. Alejandro Adler has resigned as the dean of student life and wellbeing. Alejandro shared his decision to return to Mexico City to manage a personal situation with me earlier this week. I’m grateful to Alejandro for the support and passion he brought to the College’s wellbeing vision and for broadening our connections and learning in this area. We wish him all the best as he returns home.
I’m pleased to share that Tina Jagdeo assumes the role of interim director of wellbeing for the remainder of this academic year. This is an extension of Tina’s current wellbeing coordinator responsibilities, supporting student learning and connecting with families and the broader community. Over the past two years, Tina has had oversight of our day-to-day wellbeing programming and was deeply involved in the planning and execution of our recent Broaden and Build Wellbeing Summit, as well as the related reporting and analysis. Tina will continue to work across the College to deliver exceptional programming to students and to further our wellbeing value.
Our health centre team including counselling and student support staff will continue to work in conjunction with their respective heads of school. The high level of attention and individualized care they offer remains in place and accessible to all students and their families. Additionally, colleagues delivering student life programming including our Norval, athletics, community service and Horizons teams continue to work with the heads of school to offer exceptional learning opportunities to students.
In the new year, we’ll review the student life and wellbeing portfolio and consider how we can best resource this area to offer optimum experiences, support and learning to our students and community.
Sincerely,
Sam McKinney
Principal

We are proud to announce that UCC’s annual Mother’s Day Drive is back!
Last year your donations meant more than 170 women at Ernestine's Women's Shelter and Women's Habitat received much loved gift bags of toiletries from their children on Mother’s Day. On behalf of these families living at the shelters and being supported in the outreach programs, as well as the staff at the shelters, we want to say how grateful we are for your generous donations that brought joy to so many moms!
In Canada, on any given night, over 6,000 women and children sleep in a shelter because it isn’t safe at home. The pandemic saw dramatic increases in women seeking support from shelters, and with the current steep rise in the cost of food, items like toiletries are often the first to be cut from the shopping list.
We will becollecting full and travel/hotel sized:
soap and body wash
shampoo and conditioner
body lotion and skin care
cosmetics and nail polish
hair care products
toothbrushes and toothpaste
antiperspirant and sanitary products
beauty samples
small gift sets
anything that a mom would enjoy to pamper herself is welcome!
Your donations will be beautifully wrapped for children at shelters to give to their moms on Mother’s Day so that together they can celebrate this special day.
Donations can be dropped off at the reception desk in the Upper School or main office of the Prep. Please contact Linda Carvalho if you have any questions about drop-off or Samantha Dugas if you have questions about donations.
