Great Question! Here are a few basic pieces of information...
A QR Code is a two-dimensional (2D) version of the original barcode and is typically made up of a black-and-white pixelated pattern. Denso Wave, a Japanese subsidiary of the Toyota supplier Denso, originally developed the codes for marking components in order to accelerate logistics processes for their automobile production. Today, they are used in an array of marketing tools with the widespread adoption of smartphones. Simply put the term "QR" stands for "Quick Response", which is in reference to the instant access you gain to the information hidden in the code when it is scanned.

Don't let the students fool you! Of course, the average smartphone found in nearly every student's pocket has the capability to scan and view the content or links included within the curated code, BUT so do the Chromebooks! Students simply open their camera application on the Chromebook, click on the "Scan" option, scan the QR Code in your classroom, and VOILA! They are viewing the document, picture, or link that you included.
