TO NEW BEGINNINGS AND SELF IMPROVEMENT
January 2026
📚New Year, New Knowledge, New Adventures 📚
A new year brings fresh beginnings, renewed goals, and countless opportunities to learn. In the library, the start of the year is more than a change in the calendar—it is an open invitation to discover new knowledge and embark on new adventures through reading and research.
Libraries are gateways to learning. Each book on the shelf holds ideas waiting to be explored, stories waiting to be told, and lessons waiting to be learned. As the new year begins, students are encouraged to set reading goals, explore unfamiliar topics, and challenge themselves with new materials. Whether it is fiction that sparks imagination or non-fiction that builds understanding, every book offers a new journey.

ON HISTORY AND IDENTITY
November 2025
📚On History and Identity📚
At the UBBC JHS Library, we believe that history and identity are deeply connected to the heroes who shaped our world. Heroes are not just figures in books - they are the people whose courage, wisdom, and actions have influenced our society, culture, and values.
History is more than a record of past events; it is a powerful foundation of identity. Through history, individuals and communities understand who they are, where they came from, and how their values, traditions, and beliefs were shaped over time. Our identity—whether personal, cultural, or national—is deeply connected to the stories, experiences, and struggles of those who came before us.

Giving gifts began long before Christmas was established as a holiday honoring the birth of Christ. Holiday gift-giving dates back to the Roman era, although Christmas only became a ritual in the fourth century. It was a component of a festival dedicated to the Roman deity Saturn, who was revered as the year-round provider of greenery and fruit.

NATIONAL PEACE CONSCIOUSNESS MONTH
"Transforming Minds, Transforming Lives"
September 2024
History of National Peace Consciousness Month
The term ‘peace,’ originates from the Old French ‘pais,’ which means ‘peace, reconciliation, silence, agreement.’ The phrase became popularly used by organizations after the world witnessed several devastating wars in the 20th century. During this time, countries grew in size as they took over other nations. Unfortunately, the number of human lives lost made everyone realize that peace was more important than war.
An emphasis on peace further prevailed when Norwegian sociologist, Johan Vincent Galtung, laid down the disciplines of peace and conflict studies. The sociologist devised several theories that supported peace, justice, and harmonious relationships. However, before such theories were developed, the heads of state resorted to different sorts of measures to attain peace. For instance, in ancient times, peace was made between two nations by opting for royal marriages.
After World War II, the U.N. was founded in 1945 to hinder war and provide a platform that promotes solving issues between countries through dialogue.
During the 20th century, when efforts to promote peace were made across the globe, the Philippines formed the National Peace Consciousness Month in 2004 to further strengthen the cause. Every year, a new theme is proposed for the month to aid in the peace cause, and the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process (O.P.A.P.P.) spearheads several activities that may awaken the consciousness for desiring peace, justice, and equality. During the month, different tours are also given in universities that include forums, film showings, and discussions.
PAMBANSANG BUWAN NG WIKA
"FILIPINO: Wikang Mapagpalaya"
August 2024
