This type of course is done live (all students must be present at the same time and using the same communication application). Guidelines for Course Coordinators and Course Instructors include:
Prepare the LMS Platform prior to the start of classes to include all resources, activities and assessment.
Locate readings, videos, audios from reliable sources: Resources from EbscoHost, Primary Resources (Published Books, Newspapers)
Send an email, letter, video recording, or audio informing students of class session expectations.
During the first virtual meeting, provide guidance to students on the layout of your Course Content within the LMS Platform.
Break Down Barriers: “Instead of leaving an awkward silence while students are arriving, use the opportunity to chat Just as in a physical classroom, some chitchat helps to break down social barriers while creating the expectation of interaction. You might consider pre-loading a slide that features a current event, cartoon, or trivia question to spark conversation in the minutes before class begins.” (Norman, 2017)
Prepare a PowerPoint Presentation with: Topic, Learning Outcomes, objectives, content, conclusion, preview of upcoming week and Reference. Kindly utilize the recording template shared in the Guidelines for 2020-2.
Provide one or two virtual activities to keep students attention: Answer within Chat, Use annotations, Question & Answer, Slide Sharing, Polls, etc.
Prepare, Plan, and Organize for every session.
Dress up and turn on camera when conducting presentations.
“Students do not learn much just sitting in classes listening to teachers, memorizing prepackaged assignments, and spitting out answers. They must talk about what they are learning, write reflectively about it, relate it to past experiences, and apply it to their daily lives. They must make what they learn part of themselves.”
Arthur W. Chickering and Stephen C. Ehrmann
