My teaching practicum experience
At the beginning of this experience I was very nervous, the class I chose to work with was standard three because I thought it was the level where students are a little independent and mature. They gave me a great experience. I was able to grow into a teacher and be able to get the feel of a real classroom. I learn how to deal with children who misbehave, how to improve my English but have my students understand, how to use the questioning technique to evaluate if my student understands the concept and how to find fun ways to get my students involved in my lesson.
I had a student in the class who was a little mischievous and a little distracted and that made me feel scared because i didn't know how to deal with the child to not be distracting to the other students but they teacher gave me tips on what to do when i was teaching the lesson like calling his attention and asking him questions and i was surprise to see how involved i got him in the lesson. Another thing I worked on was how to improve my English and have students understand me. The students in the classroom better understand in creole but by my six lesson I believe I learned the balance and improved.
As a teacher I believe it is important that while teaching I evaluate to see if my students are grasping the concept that I'm teaching . I believe the best way to do this is by using the questioning technique. At first I had to write down the question to ask the students and have them on a paper but after the third lesson the question came to my mind easily. The last thing that I worked on was how to find fun ways to get my students involved in my lesson, as a teacher I don't want to come off as boring and so I used real tools, beans to teach grouping to find factors of number, and tried to do little games, songs and videos. I tried my best to make sure students have fun while learning.
In conclusion, my experience was great and I learned so much. This experience gave me a real world feel of a teacher and showed me my strength and my weakness to help me improve and become a great teacher very soon.
