Note Reading Resources

Note reading is a common focus area for students. We employ a variety of strategies in class to learn how to read music notation. The resources included below are intended for reference and further practice at home.

Violin students read notes from the Treble clef:

Below are a collection of websites that offer note reading practice activities. Choose from the options listed for your student’s instrument and have them practice note reading on a regular basis. Each website has a different design, so please let me know if you have trouble using them or have any questions!


All Instruments: (choose appropriate music clef when needed -- treble clef for violin, alto clef for viola, bass clef for cello or bass)
