My intended audience for this project would be students, teachers, parents, or anyone who believes education and teens should be protected. E-cigs are harmful to the education system. These products contain dangerous chemicals and some of the highest nicotine percentages, which is highly addictive. As a digital flyer, I can share my argument through social media, which would reach a large portion of my audience. I wanted to share information that stood out to me the most over the semester and how I could get other people involved. The layout I chose uses information from my sources and graphics to show current vaping statistics, past and future expected growth rates, and finally my call-to-action, which gives a few resources to reporting underage sales to the FDA.
This entire project was a learning process for me. I found it interesting that visual arguments aren’t as uncommon as they may sound, and after reading the common forms of visual arguments I have found myself recognizing them everywhere. From photographic arguments to digital flyers, the media and education platforms are full of visual arguments. I now believe visual arguments are an awesome way to engage with other students or like-minded individuals to share a message or come together to support something bigger.
The hardest part of this assignment for me personally would be converting my written arguments into a visual message. I feel confident in my written abilities and artistic abilities, yet trying to combine them was a first! I spent a lot of time focusing on how to lay out my flyer and what graphics to use, which was adjusted multiple times during this process. Thankfully the easiest part of this assignment was choosing what information I wanted to use. Each project this semester has helped me accumulate evidence to support my topic and resources to transform them into a solid argument. I have learned a lot about the effects of vaping and statistics of how teens across the U.S. are getting hooked on these products, and strongly believe that more people should be aware of this issue and know how to stop it.
