AR AIMS AP Spring Mock ReadingWorkshop
Spring AP Two-Day Mock Reading Training
Each spring in April, AP teachers in AP Biology, AP Chemistry, AP Environmental Science, and AP Physics from across the state meet in Little Rock to gain more experience in scoring AP science free response questions and to gain a better understanding of how to coach their students in both FRQs and multiple-choice strategies.
Participants work under the leadership of a Question Leader who currently serves as an AP Reader at the College Board's national AP Science Readings as well as training in small group settings with a lead AP Biology, AP Chemistry, APES, or AP Physics 1 teacher from around the state.
ADE (DESE) allows Arkansas AIMS to grant certifications for AP teachers to receive their 5-year AP "recertification" by attending the AR AIMS Fall AP Conference Workshop AND the Spring Mock Reading Workshop. Teachers must attend both workshops in the same school year. (Note: New AP teachers must attend an APSI for initial endorsement.)
How Teachers Feel About the AIMS AP mock Reading Workshop
"I am truly grateful as a first-year teacher to join in this informative program!"
"I just want to say thank you to Tanya and Rhonda and all the AR AIMS consultants who work so hard to keep this program relevant, interesting, inspiring, and educational. The PD I get from AAIMS is always targeted to just what my course needs and just what I need as a teacher. It never disappoints and I know that is due to the hard work these individuals put into planning and organizing the PD events."
"This was wonderful for learning details and helped with my direction for my students."
"The most beneficial part of this workshop to me was seeing other students' responses from other schools- getting consistent with grading practices."
"The Networking and communication between other teachers was amazing!"
"As a first-year teacher, I’m often unsure of what I am trying to ensure all students know. This workshop has helped me to know what exactly is being looked for in questions and what students are expected to know."
"This was literally the best PD I've ever been to!!!! All of it was very good stuff :)"
"Rhonda and Steve did a great job at setting a good pace, allowing for networking, training in a realistic way, answering questions, and allowing debate over the FRQ rubics. I personally felt like it was the BEST mock reading I've ever attended. Two days is so much better than one!"
