Teachers receive the Pacing Guide as a Google Document.  They are told to make a copy so that they can adjust it to suit their own schedule.  The Pacing Guide not only has the pacing for the unit, but also matches each lesson with AR Standards and contains tips and strategies.  The Pacing Guides are written in the "5 E" format suggested by NGSS. A note about pacing guides on all AR AIMS Resource Sites- Pacing guides are included to serve as suggested pacing.  Many teachers need some idea of how long an activity is expected to last, what activities link together to form a “lesson” or series of lessons, and other advice or suggestions from the author of the site.  The pacing guides match activities and lessons to Arkansas Standards so that a teacher can be sure each standard is covered if they choose to follow the pacing guides for an entire unit or by selecting appropriate lessons/activities to meet their instructional needs.  Teachers may also choose to use the Google Site  as a resource to supplement curriculum that is already in use.  Teachers are encouraged to use the sites in the way that will best meet their needs; the sites can be especially valuable to inexperienced teachers such as those in their first year in order to give them a foundation of support materials that will work to meet a wide range of instructional needs.  AR AIMS works with districts all over the state, both public and private.  Most of the material on the Google Sites are “Google based” (Google Documents, Google Slides, Google Forms) so that they can easily be edited.  Teachers are encouraged to add their own ideas, delete things that don’t apply and adjust as needed.  The teacher, along with administrators within their district, know the needs of their students the best. The AR AIMS LTF Infused Curriculum Resource Google Support sites are updated regularly to reflect new standards and changes in Arkansas education.

Plant & Animal Adaptations

Presentations are done as Google Slides so that they are easily edited by the teacher.  They are grade appropriate & may contain embedded videos.

Student Fill-in notes are provided as Google Documents so that the teacher can edit them.  They are matched to the presentation.

Many activities such as Bean Bunny Evolution are from Laying the Foundation.  The Teacher Guide with answers is posted, there are also student pages available on the site.

Age of Dinosaurs

Teachers have frequently asked for more practice with literacy vocabulary and graphing to prepare for standardized testing.

Please see the Pacing Guide at the top of the page for a complete list of the resources available on the 8th Grade On-level Science Site for Adaptations & Natural Selection.
