The University of Alberta Student Chapter of the International Society of Automation (ISA) Edmonton Section aims to foster a vibrant community for students passionate about automation, control systems, and related technologies. Our mission is to bridge the gap between academic learning and industry practices, providing a platform for students to engage with professionals, gain practical experience, and stay updated with the latest advancements in the field.
We strive to:
Promote the understanding and application of automation and control technologies.
Facilitate networking opportunities with industry experts and professionals.
Provide hands-on learning experiences through workshops, seminars, and collaborative projects.
Encourage professional development and career growth in the automation industry.
Our values are built on collaboration, innovation, and continuous learning. We believe in creating an inclusive environment where diverse ideas are welcomed, and members are empowered to pursue their interests and career goals. By bringing together students with a shared enthusiasm for automation, we aim to inspire and support the next generation of industry leaders.
In October 2023, after a couple of years of dormancy post-COVID, Hari and Felipe reignited the student chapter for the International Society of Automation (ISA) at the UofA campus. Hari, having gained valuable insights from attending various ISA conferences and frequently referencing ISA standards in his research, recognized the immense benefits that the society could bring to UofA students. With a vision to share these benefits, the student chapter was revitalized.
In March 2024, with support from the ISA Edmonton Section, we hosted our first event at the ETLC Solarium at UofA. The "Automation Industry Mixer" was a tremendous success, drawing over 100 attendees and marking a vibrant reintroduction of ISA to the UofA community. This successful event has inspired us to organize many more to come.
Please feel free to join us and help build the future of our student chapter together!
