Technology in Education offers classroom pedagogical support tailored to your teaching style. We specialize in hybrid learning environments, accommodating both in-person and online students, as well as guest speakers. We also specialize in lecture capture and live streaming support. Our classroom consultations focus on supporting your teaching needs rather than troubleshooting technical issues within the room. IST is responsible for building, repairing, and maintaining the classroom technology. If you encounter technical difficulties, a ticket to IST is required for assistance.
Many of our classrooms in the Education building are “BYOD”, meaning you will be required to bring a laptop to connect to the room display. Instructors can come to Tech in Ed to borrow a laptop, if they do not have one already available to them. We have both Mac and Windows computers available for both short-term and longer-term loan (up to one semester). Note that due to limited resources and recent changes in IST policy, instructors must pre-arrange these laptop loans a week in advance and MUST visit Tech in Ed to complete setup of the laptop before they borrow it. It will not be possible to drop-in and grab a laptop without this preparatory work.
Most BYOD classrooms use HDMI, VGA, USB-C, or USB-A cables to connect to the screen. If you have a laptop but it does not have the necessary connections, Tech in Ed can provide cables or adapters to suit your needs.
The Faculty of Education will not be funding exams in the Learning Assessment Centre (LAC). However, online exams can still be done in class. Students will need to bring their own devices. However, if some students do not have access to a device, loaner laptops are available from Tech in Ed. The safe return of the laptops is the responsibility of the instructor. Please contact Tech in Ed in advance of the exam to ensure that laptops are available at the required time. A limited number of laptops are available, so should only be borrowed for students that don't already have their own laptop.
Note that the new LMS (Canvas) will support the Respondus Lockdown Browser, which will extend the range of platforms supported (Windows, Mac, Chromebook and iOS)
