About Us

Office of the President:

As chief administrator of ChESS, the president(s) represent and advocate for the interests of other ChESS executives and chemE students on the ESS Board of Directors and during Faculty meetings. Within ChESS, the President(s) direct and work with Executive members to develop programs,  functions, and sessions that further the goals of the Society in accordance with the Society’s Constitution.

About this year's Presidents:

Isabella (Isa): Hello hello! I am Isabella, but most people call me Isa. I look forward to my second year serving as Co-President of ChESS! I chose chemical engineering because I really want to work in pharmaceuticals, cosmetics or consumables when I graduate, so I figured the best way to get there is through Chemical Engineering. In my spare time I like to bake and watch telenovelas!

Ryan: I’m a 4th year chemical engineering student and this is my 3rd year with the club. This is my first term as Co-President and I am looking forward to what the year brings! In my spare time I like to play video games with my friends, watch soccer, and take care of my cows

Academics:

The Academics profile plans and executes programs and functions of academic nature that promotes the chemical engineering education and profession. This includes First Year Night, Student/Faculty feedback sessions, textbook exchange program, workshops/tutorials, and info sessions.

About this Year's VP Academics:

My name is Srushti Vyas, I chose Chem E cuz its really fun working with distillation colums. I chose to volunteer with ChESS because its really fun engaging with people and try to do something for the chem e community. In future I would like to work in oil and gas because I am really fascinated by how big plants work.

Finance:

The finance portfolio maintains ChESS' financial records in accordance with the University of Alberta’s Code of Student Behavior, prepares the budget, and secures sponsorships and monetary contributions from industry for Society functions, conference delegations, etc.

About this year's Co-VP Finance:

Dale: Hey my name is Dale! I chose ChemE because I'm interested in how chemistry and processes used to make everyday items and I like learning how these systems work. In the future, I want to develop and manufacture medications in the pharmaceutical industry. Outside of ChemE I cook and bake, workout, and I like music.

Adam: Hi my name is Adam, I'm a 4th year chemical engineering student doing the clean energy option. I chose chemE because I think chemistry is a lot cooler than physics. Outside of school I love reading, playing video games, and tennis. 

Externals:

The externals profile maintains relations with representatives within the local chemical engineering industry and professional societies. They coordinate events and opportunities such as conferences, industry and research nights, company seminars, and industry tours.

About this year's Co-VP Externals:

Luke: I chose Chemical Engineering because big refineries are cool! Being a part of ChESS is a great way to meet others, talk to employers, and have fun in engg! 

Dennis: Hey everyone! My name's Dennis, I'm in my third year of ChemE CPC Co-op, and I'll be one of your Co-VP Externals alongside Luke. I chose ChemE because of its immense scalability, I love the vision of making something at large scale whether that be food for families or energy for their homes. I'm working to bring our discipline firsthand industrial experience by linking you with field experts and taking you on tours at super relevant company plants. I'm currently training to be an Ironman, and when I have time I love to read a good book with my dog Archie by my side :)

Internals:

The internals portfolio coordinates and oversees all sales of Society merchandise, including, but not limited to: clothing, food and drink, etc. This portfolio also maintains the ChESS club room.

About this year's Co-VP Internals:

Antonio: I am going into my third year and my second year with ChESS. I am also on a work term with WSP. I chose ChemE because I play a lot of modded Minecraft. In my free time, I listen to a lot of music and travel for concerts.

Sarah: I'm a 4th year Clean Energy & Sustainable Process Systems Chemical Engineering student, and this is my second year with ChESS! I chose chemical engineering because I’m interested in how everyday products and processes are designed and optimized, and I hope to work in the food, energy, or cosmetics industry in the future. Outside of school, I love to travel and try new foods around the city!
