This is where we study the interaction between the immune and metabolic systems. We have two overarching research themes: how metabolic perturbations impact adaptive immune function, and how immune cells adapt to these perturbations via metabolic reprogramming. Our goal is to better understand how the adaptive immune system becomes dysregulated and contributes to diseases such as diabetes and cancer, and in doing so develop therapeutic approaches to improve immune function and regulation by targeting immune cell metabolism.
We are looking for talented graduate students and postdoc fellows! Interested applicants please send a cover letter, CV, and academic transcript to stsai@ualberta.ca. Some available projects, as well as other FoMD graduate opportunities can be found here.
