Justin earned his BSc and PhD in Chemistry from McGill University and conducted his doctoral research under the guidance of Dr. Anthony Mittermaier. After graduate school, Justin pursued a Postdoctoral fellowship in the lab of Dr. John Rubinstein at the SickKids Research Institute in Toronto. Justin enjoys camping and sports in his free time.
Natascia Ciancibello recently graduated from the University of Alberta with a General Science degree, where she majored in biology and minored in psychology. She hopes to enter medicine in the future and her passion for learning and interest in microbiology brought her to the Di Trani lab. She loves spending time outdoors and her favourite hobbies are reading, practising yoga, and playing the trumpet.
Sandaru recently graduated from the University of Alberta, majoring in biology with a minor in chemistry and thought why not combine them both and do a biochemistry masters. He hopes to remain within academia in the future and his interest in working with complicated and cutting edge instruments brought him to the Di Trani lab. He loves going on hikes and doing a bit of gardening in the summer months, favorite hobbies include gaming, playing some chess and drinking a nice hot cup of Ceylon tea.
Camille earned her Bachelor's degree in Chemistry from Reims, France, and her Master's degree in Molecular and Supramolecular Chemistry from Strasbourg, France. She is currently completing her PhD in Basel, Switzerland, under the supervision of Dr. Florian P. Seebeck, where she conducted research on biomechanistic analysis using X-ray crystallography to determine the structure of enzymes involved in the biosynthesis and degradation pathways of a micronutrient. She is excited to continue as a laboratory technician in Dr. Justin Di Trani's lab, contributing to structural biology research with a focus on the electron transport chain using cryo-EM analysis.
Outside the lab, she enjoys outdoor activities such as triathlon, rafting and hiking. She also loves listening to music, exploring new cultures—especially through culinary specialties—and traveling the world.
Jialin is entering the final year of his Honours Biochemistry degree at the University of Alberta. He is keen to bridge theory and practice by applying biochemical concepts to experimental research. His interests in structural biochemistry, combined with the opportunity to explore cryogenic electron microscopy, led him to join the Di Trani Lab. Outside of the lab, he can often be found delighting in the pages of a good book or enjoying a spirited game of badminton.
Emma is in her fourth year at the University of Alberta pursuing a biochemistry specialization degree. She plans to try out what academia has in store for her and has a keen interest in molecular machinery and structural biology which brought her to the Di Trani lab. She spends most of her time at cheer practice and her favourite hobbies are playing piano, baking and gymnastics.
