The tan lab

Welcome

Our lab studies how the brain develops and functions. We are particularly interested in how nerve cells are produced and maintained in the adult brain. Understanding this process will teach us about normal brain development and maintenance. It may also lead to strategies that treat neurodevelopmental disorders and/or facilitate brain repair.

This website is also a platform to raise the awareness of a rare genetic condition that affects brain development, CIC haploinsufficiency syndrome. We hope to bring together a community of patients and families affected by this disorder by introducing scientific literature and providing a channel for them to connect with each other.

THE CIC GENE portal

Does your child have a mutation in the capicua (CIC) gene? Find out more about this rare genetic condition that affects brain development.

Do you find scientific research articles difficult to understand? Our team of Collaborative Investigators of Capicua has made them more accessible for you.

Do you have a question about the CIC gene? We may have the answer.
