Info for Educators
The Master of Arts in Policy Studies seeks to engage with innovative course design principles. The program is designed to move beyond the scholarship/practice dichotomy found in many graduate policy programs.
Therefore, we are committed to:
A pracademic approach to student development, emphasizing both academic rigour and professional excellence
A multi-modal approach to instruction, recognizing that much of what human beings learn is through experiential and relational learning (not simply through lectures and readings).
Ensuring that experiential learning is incorporated in our classrooms through case studies, role play and simulation activities, field trips, guest speakers, and policy-based assignments.
Evaluation
The program Learning Objectives emphasize student development of knowledge, skills, and behavioural competencies.
Core courses, professional development sessions, and practicums all provide opportunities for students to develop their competencies.
Students are required to engage in self-evaluation and encouraged to take responsibility for managing their own professional development.
Using our specially designed 360 degree assessment tool provides students with valuable feedback from teachers and peers.
Throughout the program and, especially in the core courses, we work with students to help them create their own development goals and plans.
