We aim to explore how the world is built for able-bodied people while being actively uncomfortable and hostile toward people living with disabilities. We will represent this with a real estate tour video of “Hostile Architecture House,” a hypothetical apartment designed to mimic the lack of accessibility in architecture from the perspective of a non-disabled person. This is meant to both mimic our PIE mentors’ experiences with design that is hostile towards people with disabilities and to showcase the problems with hostile architecture more generally. The imagined outcome of this project is that the audience reflects on how design elements shape the built environment and determine who is it accessible to. We want our audience to watch the video and envision design elements that could replace the hostile architecture to make more inclusive spaces.
