The words "normal" or "abnormal" are often employed in medicine to describe patients and in society to describe individuals. However, who decides the exact definition of these terms? Here, we will challenge people’s use and understanding of the word normal. Paintings are not properly described as normal or abnormal and neither should patients. While their physiology or anatomy may be abnormal, they themselves are not.
