“This is Not a Broken Mirror” represents the journey that patients with chronic illness experience. This art piece not only encourages us to think about the different identities that are thrust upon the patient when faced with a life-changing diagnosis, but it also reminds us that resiliency allows the patient to incorporate their diagnosis into their own identity. The mosaic design illustrates the process through which empowerment helps patients piece together their diagnosis. Finally, many of the mirror panes are beautified to highlight how patients can transform their diagnosis into a meaningful aspect of their life’s journey.
