UNIVERSITY OF ALBERTA HOSPITAL

University of Alberta Hospital, situated in the Walter Mackenzie Health Centre, is the main teaching site for the Core Internal Medicine program.  One of the largest hospitals in Western Canada, the WMC also contains the Mazankowski Heart Institute and the Stollery Children's Hospital. It is the center of a healthcare hub, surrounded by the Kaye Edmonton Clinic, Zeidler Ledcor Centre, Edmonton Clinic Health Academy, Cross Cancer Institute, and the Katz Group/Rexall Centre. Every building that an Internal Medicine resident can expect to frequent is connected by pedways, which is especially helpful during winter. It has an open concept design maximizing resident exposure to sunlight.

Rotations available at the UAH include General Internal Medicine (CTU), Cardiology, Gastroenterology, Nephrology, Pulmonary, Hematology, Palliative, Geriatrics, Rheumatology, Endocrinology, Infectious Diseases, ICU and Neurology.

ROYAL ALEXANDRA HOSPITAL

Royal Alexandra Hospital is located in downtown Edmonton, servicing a large inner city patient population. As Edmonton's second largest hospital with more than 600 beds, it houses services not available at the University Hospital such as Thoracic Surgery, Addictions Medicine, Ophthalmology, and OBGYN. The recently built Robbins Pavilion extension created access to state-of-the-art cardiology services (CCU) and increased the number of acute medicine beds available.

Rotations available at the RAH include General Internal Medicine (CTU), Infectious Disease, and ICU.

GREY NUNS COMMUNITY HOSPITAL

Grey Nuns Community Hospital is located in South Edmonton, approximately 20 minutes by car from the University Hospital. Residents are required to do one General Internal Medicine rotation in the first year. Unique to GNH is its 14-bed inpatient Palliative ward, and interested residents have the opportunity to learn from its renowned teaching practice.
