UNIVERSITY OF ALBERTA
Welcome Video from the Core Internal Medicine Program
Welcome from Dr. Kassam
Department Chair Medicine
THANK YOU for your interest of our Core Internal Medicine program at the University of Alberta!
Our program's structure, administrative staff, and physician leadership are dedicated to helping you become the best internist possible:
Dedicated program leadership - The program director has protected time and is well supported by many administrative staff. The PD, program leadership, and rotation supervisors are approachable, resident oriented, and effective.
Strong relationships between residents and staff - Due to the program size, residents quickly develop a collegial relationship with staff. The resident cohort itself is friendly, cohesive, and supportive.
Program Design - The program is logically designed with graduated responsibility, while also allowing for resident choice in their rotations and education. We offer ambulatory experiences in all 3 years. The curriculum has been mapped in detail to Royal College objectives and is a leader when it comes to Competency by Design. The program is highly responsive to resident input.
Effective Resident Assessment Program - Formal annual practice orals and OSCEs, coupled with timely, useful and personalized feedback. Resident Development Committee ensures follow-up on all flagged concerns.
We hope that you enjoy your interview experience in Edmonton (virtually), and wish you the best of luck with your career no matter where you end up for Internal Medicine!
Sincerely yours,
Thirza Carpenter MD, FRCPC
Program Director, Core Internal Medicine
