We aim to investigate the ways that music and sound contribute to individual and community mental health, through interdisciplinary humanistic research. We are particularly interested in how concepts and approaches related to the therapeutic application of music and sound interact with those of Western medical models and tools of healthcare.
Consideration of music and sound within the larger frame of holistic, preventive, and integrative health.
Recognition of the wide spectrum of therapeutic practices across cultures (often intersecting ritual), within which Western medical science is but one instance.
The impact of music for caregivers, healthcare providers, students and families, as well as patients.
