(Practicum/Internship - 598)
Winter 2027 is Open!
As the final piece of the MPH puzzle, students are ready to demonstrate their competencies in the field — they bring all their learning and experiences to your team to support the work they do.
MPH practicum placements are integral to public health competency and capacity development - an opportunity to put into practice the knowledge and to learn in a dynamic and diverse environment. Organizations get strong, graduate student support for their work, a partnership with the School of Public Health at the University of Alberta, and an expanded network of colleagues.
an 11-13 week immersive placement for a graduate student within your organization (FT - 400h total)
mentorship on a variety of projects
student assessment at mid-point and end-point
Placements are meant to be an intensive experience for students to engage in Master's level public health work of an organization resulting in a legacy deliverable, or set of deliverables, that support the organization's current and future work.
A preceptor should be available to mentor the student including pre-scheduled check-ins and adhoc support, participate in a mid-point meeting with the student, academic advisor and practicum coordinator, provide feedback to student on work products, and complete a student assessment at mid-point and endpoint of the practicum.
We encourage organizations to offer paid placements to students for this work.
