In addition to academic publications, I write essays. In the past five years, I've published two books of essays with University of Alberta Press: Until Further Notice: A Year in Pandemic Time and Half-Light: Westbound on a Hot Planet. Half-Light was one four finalists for the Regional Book of the Year given by the Alberta Book Publishers Association in 2025. I currently have a manuscript about returning to the region of Scotland where my maternal ancestors came from which is under review and am working on a collection about loneliness and solitude.
I was shortlisted for the Edna Staebler Creative Nonfiction Award in 2021 for an essay titled On Being Minimally Bereaved and longlisted in 2022 for an essay titled Westbound . I have also published in Queens Quarterly (here, and here), the New Quarterly, the Goose, and the Spadina Literary Review. You can find more of my writing at NorthOfHere.
