Resources: Student Deployment

An important consideration for active military members or reservists is the potential to be deployed during their university studies. It is important for post-secondary institutions to be aware of this possibility and to have considered potential options to support students. 

• Consider developing a formal policy to support students who may be deployed.

• If no formal policy is available, develop a Student Deployment Checklist to help guide military students. 

• Notify Faculty of deployment and confirm legitimacy of deployment

• Connect with instructor(s) to explore academic options:

  • • If early in the term, delete course and re-register in future term?

    • Withdraw from the course?

    • Deferral of examination?

    • Extension of course(s) end date?

• If no academic options are feasible: 

  • • Incomplete? 

    • Explore timelines for an incomplete 3-6 months?

• Determine if student de-registration required

• Connect with Registrar's Office to facilitate fee reimbursement 

• Explore future course registration options where de-registration is required:

  • • Availability of course in upcoming term/year?

    • Can a class seat be held?
