Scenario:
You’ve been selected to join Cipher Vanguard, an elite cybersecurity task force. Not by chance, but because your skills caught our attention. You made your mark in the digital underground, earning a reputation as a talented white hat hacker, exposing vulnerabilities and protecting systems with precision.
We’ve been watching.
A rogue black hat group known as Shadow Circuit is executing a coordinated assault to take down the global power grid. Cipher Vanguard exists to stop them. To succeed, you'll need to outthink and outmaneuver them.
You’ve got the skills. Now, it’s time to prove it. Welcome to Cipher Vanguard. The world is counting on you.
Phase 1 -- Operation Bypass
Scenario:
Shadow Circuit has infected a series of high-security government terminals with a diagnostic virus that activates the moment the system performs a hardware check. These checks happen automatically during startup and rely on correct readings from the computer’s internal parts. To stop the virus from spreading, your team has gained remote access to a quarantined unit.
Phase 2 -- Combing the Logs
Scenario:
Your task force has intercepted internal communications from Shadow Circuit’s Private Server. The members are discussing their past operations and reflecting on how their skills could be applied in legitimate cybersecurity careers.
You must analyze these messages, identify which cybersecurity roles align with each hacker’s skillset, and consider how their actions could be redirected toward ethical opportunities in the cyber field.
Phase 3
Scenario:
To get the power grid back online, you need to fix the circuit. Below is an image of the completed circuit. Repair the circuit to thwart Shadow Circuit's plans!
Hint: The circuit will play an audible alarm sound when it is completed. The Project is #17 in the book!
When the alarm sounds, you have successfully reset the grid, and completed the challenge.
