Objectives:
Identify PC hardware parts
Know the function of each component
Learn how to build a PC and how it relates to "Keep it Simple."
What is a Computer?
To put it simply, a computer is an electronic device that processes information.
What are Peripherals?
•Any physical input or output device
•How the user interacts with the PC
All Together, Now!
CPU (Central Processing Unit)
The “brain” of the computer.
It does all the thinking and follows instructions to run programs.
Motherboard
The “main board” that connects everything together.
It's like a city map where data travels between parts.
RAM (Random Access Memory)
Temporary memory.
It holds information that the computer is using right now. Faster than a hard drive, but gets erased when you turn off the computer.
Hard Drive
Long-term storage.
Like a filing cabinet for your files, photos, videos, and programs.
Optical Drive
Reads CDs and DVDs.
Not used much these days, but useful for older software or media.
PSU (Power Supply Unit)
Feeds electricity to all parts of the computer.
Converts electricity from the wall into usable power for each component.
Video Card (Graphics Card)
Handles pictures, videos, and games.
It’s like a mini-computer just for images.
Heatsink & Fan
Keeps the CPU cool.
The CPU gets hot when working, so the heatsink and fan help cool it down like a tiny air conditioner.
