Andrés did his degrees in BSc in Biology (Biogeography of parasites), a MSc (Mol. Syst. in parasite cryptic species), and PhD in Evolutionary Biology of Parasites of Wildlife.
He is a professor in the discipline of Evolutionary Biology of Parasites in the Study Program of Biology of the Science Faculty of the Autonomous University of Baja California, MX (in spanish "FC-UABC").
Their research interests are the parasite biodiversity to implement molecular tools, distributional data and ecological relationships to understand the evolution of the host-parasite association.
Andrés is the reasearch leader of Evolutionary Biology of Parasites lab (in spanish "BEP") of the FC-UABC.
He started exploring the parasitic diversity on ecosystems of the Baja California Peninsula (Lands and Waters) in the BEP lab.
In the BEP lab we have three aims of study:
1) Discovery of wild parasite diversity.
2) Building inventories of parasitic diversity from wild populations.
3) Detecting evolutionary patterns of the parasitic life.
The study focus of BEP lab is the helminth parasite fauna of wildlife (vertebrate and invertebrate) from amazing ecosystems of the Baja California Peninsula (terrestrial and aquatic enviroments from Arid Zones).
The parasite information data are generated based on the development of Graduate thesis in collaboration with research groups from four lines:
1) Invertebrates
2) Teleosts (oasis, steros, intertidal and litorals)
3) Amphibians (frogs and toads)
4) Mammals (bats)
Our field of Research
1) Phylogenetics
2) Parametric and Historical Biogeography
3) Coevolution and Cophylogenetics between host-parasite associations
4) Ecological effects of parasites on communities and biodiversity
5) Integrative Taxonomy
