Thank you for your interest in becoming a mentor to a U-32 student in our Pathways program at U-32! We are thrilled to be able to offer such diverse educational opportunities for students to explore their passions and curiosities, take learning into their own hands, investigate a possible future career, and connect with people in the community. Below you will find our Mentor Guide, an outline of the process to become a mentor, and frequently asked questions about mentoring at U-32.
Click the link below for our Mentor Guide, full of information to guide you in your role as a Mentor. These resources will help you become familiar with our programs and equip you to make a positive impact on our students
Our Student/Mentor Agreement outlines the roles and responsibilities of the mentor, student and teacher advisor. Mentors, students, teacher advisors and parents/caregivers will be asked to fill in relevant information, review and sign this agreement before the mentorship begins.
Students may NOT be placed in any of the prohibitive hazardous occupations as defined by the US-DOL Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) unless they are enrolled in a CTE program in the same content area and participate in the CO-OP registered work-based learning program.
To ensure the safety of all of our students, the Washington Central Supervisory Union conducts background checks with all volunteers, as per Vermont Crime Information Center guidelines. Some of our background checks require mentors to be fingerprinted (and the fee will be reimbursed).
Please review the volunteer application and background check process outlined HERE. If you need further clarification, we are happy to discuss our background check policies with you.
Mentor Feedback - We Want to Hear from You
Each program has a final feedback form that will be sent to all mentors. The year-long programs will also send out mid-year feedback forms. We value your thoughts and feelings about the mentoring experience and use this information to make improvements to our programs.
If any part of this process presents special challenges, before or during the study, please contact us and we’ll do our best to find a solution!
Mentors are expected to:
Be familiar with the student's learning goals (please request a copy of the Learning Plan if one hasn’t been shared)
Help the student reach those goals through mentorship and practical experience
Provide feedback on progress (note: mentor feedback contributes to, but does not determine, the student’s grade)
Mentors are not expected to:
Score students academically
