Food Allergies

Like most schools in the United States, we have a number of students in ours that have potentially life threatening food allergies. Children with food allergies can have life-threatening reactions with some exposures to even tiny amounts of allergen. There are certain things that need to be done to keep these students safe and able to learn. Because our school has many young children who are still exploring their environment with their hands and mouths and frequently touch their face, we have school rules that can decrease their chance of allergic reactions. Please see our specific school rules that relate to our food allergy policy. It is our goal to ensure that every student in our school can learn in a safe and supportive environment.

School Guidelines

• The cafeteria does not use any nut products in meals or snacks they prepare - So, all hot lunches are nut free.
• There is a NUT FREE table in the cafeteria for students who have severe nut allergies. Any student who brings nut products in cold lunches cannot sit at this table.
• Classroom precautions are decided on a case by case basis. If there are restrictions in a classroom, all families of students in that particular classroom will be notified by letter.
• Nut products may not be eaten in any common rooms (library, music, art, health office…). If students are eating snack or lunch with staff in these rooms they may not have nut products. There are signs posted outside all rooms which have any food restrictions.
