Bilingual children often experience lexical acquisition delays, a smaller vocabulary, and struggle to learn the implicit meaning behind words more than monolingual children. This could lead to decreased academic confidence, estrangement from peers, and the perception that bilingual children are not as academically capable as their counterparts. It is clear that there is no intellectual delay in bilingual children; it is simply a delay in the ability to express themselves fully through language. One way to help mitigate this problem is through the creation of an augmented reality learning game that children could use to learn, through visual animations, the implicit meaning behind certain words and phrases in their second language.
