Participating at the United Nations General Assembly High-Level Week in New York
Participating in the United Nations General Assembly High-Level Week gave me profound insights into global efforts to address pressing issues like climate change and education, significantly enriching my understanding of the intersection of media, politics, and sustainability, which is the focus of my capstone research in the Media and Politics Minor. Drawing on my studies in American politics and global diplomacy, I realized the transformative power of storytelling in shaping public opinion, especially on environmental issues. Attending events hosted by the Global Green Growth Institute and the United Nations Development Programme also taught me a lot about how to raise funds for green projects and the value of climate-smart agriculture. These experiences were deeply relevant to my studies in global diplomacy and international relations, emphasizing the importance of coordinated dialogues and innovative financial solutions in addressing sustainability challenges.
Furthermore, engagements such as the Silatech event highlighted media and political figures' ethical responsibilities in promoting inclusive policymaking and youth engagement, which is closely related to my research on the impact of media on public discourse in the Media and Politics Minor. The emphasis on promoting sustainable narratives and raising environmental awareness in collective discourse at climate action and youth empowerment events reinforced my capstone project's central themes. It became clear that building sustainable futures necessitates collaboration and amplifying youth voices, both of which are central goals of my academic career.
Looking ahead, I proposed strategies to increase the impact of sustainability initiatives such as the "How Eye See Climate Change" competition, using social media and storytelling to raise awareness and inspire action. Recognizing social media's pervasive influence in shaping public discourse, my proposal seeks to leverage these platforms to engage diverse audiences and drive tangible progress toward sustainability goals.
In addition to academic pursuits, my extracurricular involvement, particularly the founding of the SDGeneration Network, demonstrates my dedication to Arab youth empowerment and sustainable development. Serving as a Doha Debates ambassador has expanded my understanding of global challenges and the role of media and politics in addressing them. These experiences, combined with attendance at relevant lectures, workshops, and conferences, have expanded my understanding of the intersection of media and politics and reaffirmed my commitment to promoting global sustainability and youth empowerment. I am confident that with continued engagement and advocacy, I will be able to make a meaningful contribution to addressing today's pressing challenges.
I actively participated in sustainability research projects in Qatar, combining my academic interests with my passion for sustainability. I contributed to youth programs and sustainability research initiatives while working with Education City's universities. This multidisciplinary approach enabled me to apply insights from a variety of fields, including environmental science, sociology, and public policy, to address the complex sustainability challenges confronting our community.
In my pursuit of academic excellence and cross-disciplinary engagement, I collaborated with Qatar University to conduct research on youth participation in sustainability. This collaboration facilitated knowledge exchange and innovative approaches to addressing sustainability issues by bringing together experts from various academic institutions.
In addition, I worked closely with the Minister of Environment's office to bridge the gap between academia and real-world impact. Through this collaboration, I hoped to identify tangible solutions to Qatar's environmental challenges and develop youth programs that contribute to the country's sustainable development goals.
Through these experiences, I have demonstrated my proactive commitment to academic success by participating in independent study and research projects outside of the traditional curriculum. My participation in cross-disciplinary academic pursuits, combined with real-world collaborations, demonstrates my commitment to addressing pressing societal issues and contributing meaningfully to my field and community.
