The Searle Fellows Program is committed to supporting Faculty Mentors as they
Engage in culturally aware conversations about learning and teaching with each mentee.
Critically reflect on the alignment of their mentoring philosophy, practices, and positionality.
Leverage sponsorship opportunities to endorse, amplify, and advocate for each mentee within the mentor’s extended networks.
Faculty Mentors are invited to attend the three program Retreats and the Teaching Salons and play an important role in the final celebration and ceremony.
Searle Fellows and their mentors meet at least once per quarter to discuss learning and teaching. At the first meeting, work together to establish goals for year. Faculty Mentors play a key role in helping the Searle Fellow find a public venue for sharing their project.
Based on the agreed upon goals, consider having a specific focus or purpose for each meeting. Here are some possibilities:
A syllabus exchange
A Small Group Analysis debrief
Teaching observation and debrief
Teaching Statement exchange
Project guidance and feedback
