Demonstration

Featured above is a demonstration of the VARScent device. The cube is selected by the provider so that the device knows which scent to release.

Transcript

In this demo, we’re going to take a quick look at the features of the VIP class VARScent. We’ll begin with a short introduction of three key features: environment, scent, and provider view.

The environment is a simple room with various scent deliverers; these scents can vary from flowers, to food, to many more options. Currently, the VARScent team is testing with lavender and peanut butter. This demo has created a cube in the room for visualization purposes.

Next, the scents. Depending on the distance of a patient from an object, the VARScent device will output a different level of scent, with the strongest scents being the closest, and the weakest scents the farthest. For the purposes of this demo, scents are being visualized through the number at the bottom left-hand corner of the video. However, in actual patient view, this number will not be visible.

Finally, provider view utilizes the built-in Unity console to display what the healthcare provider will be seeing. The healthcare provider must know what a patient detects at the exact distance at which they detect it, and so, the provider will be able to see the distance a patient is from the object.

As you can see in this demo, the provider sees the distance from the object, while the patient only sees their environment; however, they will be smelling a different level of scents according to where they are in the room in relation to the scented object.
