Demonstrate educational technology leadership in school and community through research and innovations in emerging teaching and learning environments (e.g., online, blended, mobile, game-based, competency-based).
The EDTECH 501 Innovator Artifact discusses a proposed change to the architecture and introduction of embedded librarianship to Albertsons library. The paper reviews contemporary literature on embedded librarianship, considers institutional challenges, presents the design proposal, and provides anticipated outcomes.
The Innovator Artifact demonstrates my mastery of PLO 5 by showing how I can assume leadership and improve services to the community of learners it serves by some architectural adjustments and by fully implementing embedded librarianship in academic learning environments.
This presentation discusses what quest-based learning is and potential usefulness for teachers. Though brief, this presentation could be fleshed out with case studies and interactive material such as videos and audio, and could be used to present to teachers a case for gamified learning experiences. The use of this artifact as a promotional material demonstrates my competency in PLO 5 by showing how I plan to encourage and implement the use of game-based learning in online environments.
This presentation can be used at either the secondary or post-secondary level help instructors be leaders in using quest-based learning in their educational practice.
This research artifact is an annotated bibliography dealing with the topic of the digital divide in university education, which is usually not emphasized in favor of the K-12 digital divide. As it emphasizes challenges faced by higher education students in the digital divide, an issue which reflects on the ability of students to access online environments, this bibliography demonstrates my competency in PLO 5 showing my research on an emerging teaching environment, and showing my understanding of a developing social issue that can be met by libraries and library-based instruction.
While not specifically about academic libraries, it will be used to guide future research and implement solution strategies.
This course prototype demonstrates my mastery of the principles of PLO 5 by showing how I can provide an innovative, gamified learning environment to teach higher education students basic skills in searching for materials and identifying key people in the library.
It is a simulation in which students will use interactive videos and other tools to understand how to use databases, search physical library collections, and acquaint themselves with people they will encounter in the library. In my professional practice, I hope to develop and improve gamified learning to teach students basic skills in library usage to engage them.
This scavenger hunt is a gamified experience for beginning library science students to locate 5 different items, whether it is a directional question, information about COVID-19 vaccines, or a book they need for research.
This course demonstrates my mastery of the principles of PLO 5 by showing how I integrated innovation in instructional methods and introduced gamification principles to teach reference librarianship skills to library science students.
In my professional practice, I would like to implement a similar course to teach reference skills to library science students.
This media tutorial describes to students how to search an online database, lets them know what effective search strategies will help them meet their information needs through basic searches, advanced searches, and using limiters. This is a useful tutorial for library professionals to quickly teach students how to use online databases to effectively meet their information needs, and demonstrates my mastery of PLO 5 showing how I made use of an emerging virtual learning format (the rich media tutorial) in an online learning environment.
I plan to create similar tools to teach students how to use databases and understand the various components of databases.
