Beyond Sit and Click:
Designing Engaging Online Courses
A Professional Development PBL
The Challenge
Designing engaging online course content can be an enormous undertaking. Teachers are often given course shells that utilize the online equivalent of "sit and get" instruction. Instead, for online learning, it's sit and click. Students are provided with readings or videos and then asked to respond in basic short answer questions or multiple choice.
The Opportunity
In this professional development project, teachers of online content are challenged to update their courses to meet the needs of 21st Century learners, who demand collaboration, interactivity, and critical thinking in their learning. We'll tackle the driving question, "How do we make online learning more engaging for students?" Through focus groups, learning labs, and monthly challenges, we'll move Beyond Sit and Click.
