Alabama History Project

Students become conduits between history and a person's life.

Welcome to the Alabama History Project. The focus of the project is for students to research legends, events, or landmarks of Alabama. Students will be participating in several forms of research over a long period of time. Students will work in groups to create podcasts based on their research of a person or a time in history. Students will use safe search sites, recording and editing tools, and connections with people in the community to complete their podcasts. The students will have a 6-12 minute time limit on their podcasts. They also have the option of deciding how they will deliver their content and in what style they will use to engage their listeners. Students will use Google Slides or Google Docs to keep their collaborative notes and script. All research will be organized and saved in their Google Drives. Students will provide their thoughts on the process using Flipgrid. Podcasts will be shared through the school's social media page.

Project-based learning provides students with the opportunity to tackle real world situations that by their nature have no easy solution, or have no solution at the present time. Project-based learning helps students understand that sometimes one needs to be satisfied with asking the right questions rather that focusing on the "right" answers. Students learn to manage their time, interpret data sets, resolve value conflicts between group members and prepare and communicate the results of their investigation. In other words, they will use their experiences to learn to manage real life situations.
