JANEAL GROSINGER - EDTECH 541
This video is a TED talk by Tom Chatfield. He mentions that people are both playing a lot of video games and spending a lot of money on video games now. He also mentions that the importance of this is that everything people do during these games can be measured. People continue playing the games because of the engagement and the prizes that are awarded during the games. Several things can be determined from playing games - how long and short domains effect the learning, effort is rewarded, feedback is key to people learning from the games, and that we can predict learning through the games. Collaboration between people playing the game is rewarding and is engaging students, but linking consequences to action moves a person into the state of understanding.
This video relates to my lesson because it helps to explain why video games are engaging to students and why it is beneficial to include them in educational lessons. Teachers now have research data to back up an "idea" of a new way to teach a class.

This video helps dispel myths about incorporating gamification into education. The video explains that teachers still use their pedagogical knowledge when deciding whether to use a video game in a lesson. A teacher does not need to be a gamer in order to include games in a lesson. It goes on to mention that it is not about the games in the class, but rather it is about what you want to bring to your class. It is about collaboration, voice and choice of the student, and pathways to success. We are simply having the students take these skills and apply them to their learning.
This video is also beneficial to my math lesson as a mean of recommendation and reference to the benefits of using gamification. It is added knowledge for the teacher to understand prior to teaching the lesson.
This video is an interview of Secretary Duncan from the US Department of Education. The interview is an in-depth look at connecting all students to the internet. Secretary Duncan explains how one school district has moved into 21st Century learning for all students by eliminating textbooks (everything is online), and making sure that all students are connected.
This video is important to my lesson because it speaks of training teachers, offering E-Rate to school districts, and how learning can change dramatically if we impact student's learning now. Technology needs to fill the gaps in learning for all students. With more schools working towards adding technology to their curriculum, it is important that the networking and connectivity is available to all school districts to allow the kind of learning such as Minecraft in a math class that will engage and enhance the learning needs of students.

This video is about a school district that has incorporated Minecraft into their education program. Teachers were not required to incorporate the program, but for those that agreed, they were given tutorials on how to use the program as part of their curriculum. In this district, the tool is being used as an instructional tool to aid the lesson, not to be used in place of the lesson. Students have shown great improvement in school by using Minecraft and collaboration has greatly improved. Students of various learning levels have also greatly improved.
This video is perfect for my math lesson using Minecraft because teachers will see that the program has been initiated in other schools and it has been very well received by other students and parents. It is a great recommendation to teacher who is a little unsure about testing the program in their class.
This video is related to my math lesson because it uses the same Minecraft program incorporated into his math lesson. It discusses how one student who was not able to stay focused on his regular pencil and paper math lesson, but was able to stay focused and engaged in the Minecraft lesson for over 90 minutes. It specifically speaks on how the Minecraft program can be used for a variety of math lessons.
This is an inspiring TED Talk about how important the engagement of students through Minecraft can be. All teachers should watch this video before initializing the program within their classes to help see first hand accounts of the changes that have been witnessed by using this program. It is recommended for any teacher that is interested in changing or improving the learning levels of students within their classroom.
This video has real teachers showing us how to help other teachers use the program. It also speaks of the importance of teaching digital citizenship to students in schools. It explains how Minecraft is such a large part of a students real-life, that bringing the game into the classroom with help students relate real-life problems to their learning. The video shows a real class, and the teachers explain how simple it is to start the game and how you can best teach with Minecraft.
This is another great example of the benefits of including Minecraft into your lesson, similar to my second grade math lesson. It is a great resource for teachers considering this new lesson plan to get background knowledge and opinions from other teachers.
This video is a review of the Minecraft: Education Edition that many teachers use in their classrooms. It is perfect for my math class lesson as a training video for the teachers prior to presenting the lesson to the students.
The video is very good at explaining how to use the chalkboards and characters (tour guides) within the game that can hold signs with directions for the students. The chalkboards are great for including full lesson plan instructions for students to follow in order to complete the created lesson. This video is not recommended for the students in the class.
I recommend teachers view this when they first start using Minecraft in their classes. It is a good introduction to the types of lessons that Minecraft Education Edition contains, as opposed to simply moving around the creative-mode world.
This is a step by step video of how to move about the Minecraft world and how to use the functions and controls. I have chosen this video to use for my Video-Enhanced lesson plan to help students who are unfamiliar with Minecraft to learn the steps needed to progress through the lesson. Many of the tips and tricks the narrator mentions are included in my lesson plan.
I like this video because it is very detailed in explaining all the functions of the video and how things work within this creative mode world. The video also includes closed caption and speed control so students of all learning levels will be able to use it. If students forget part of the instructions while in the middle of the lesson, they will be able to refer back to the video for instructions - and it is much easier to use than trying to read and understand instructions.
This video is a tutorial on how to measure the perimeter of a shape. It is hosted by a math teacher that also hosts several other math videos. He is very dynamic in his presentation and speaks slowly and clearly for students to understand.
I like this video because it is engaging for students, offers closed captions and adjustable speed controls. The relative advantage of this video is that the teacher offers several different examples to help explain the lesson he is teaching and slowly walks through all steps of the problem. It is also very colorful and displays the measurements and sides he is referring to throughout the video.
This video relates to my second grade Minecraft math class because it helps to show how the students will use the blocks from the Minecraft game as "units". It will also shows the students how to measure around the outside of the house they are building, as well as how to measure the area within it.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AAY1bsazcgM&feature=emb_title
This video is a tutorial on how to determine the area and perimeter. It includes rhymes that are set to a catchy tunes to help students learn and remember the information. The video is also based on cool characters; a martian and his dog that live on Mars. It is fast paced so the students can view it quickly and review it again if they need to.
It is great for learners of all levels because it includes closed captions and adjustable speed of the video. The words of the song are also written across the screen in large letters that are easy to see so the students can sing along to the video. A great learning tool for students in grades 2-4. This will help the students in my Minecraft math class measure the area within the house they build and the perimeter around it.
This video is a tutorial on how to work with base ten blocks. This video will be helpful for students to watch so they can learn about using a single cube, a base ten block, and the hundreds block. Students will be working with blocks similar to this in the Minecraft math lesson in my class.
The video has lively music and colorful pictures to help students walk through a worksheet on base ten. The instructor in the video does a really great job of walking the students through comparing numbers and base ten blocks. It should be very engaging for students.
