This sequence of learning will start with the Learning Target, Language Target, and Success Criteria course. The concepts covered in this course will provide a common language and experience for all educators (even those familiar with the creation of learning targets) as we move through the rest of the learning. Click here to enroll in this course.
The next course in the sequence is Target and Task Alignment. This course will take the understanding of Learning and Language Targets and connect them to the creation of student tasks. The enrollment link to this course will be available once you have completed the previous course. Need help finding the link? Reach out to professionaldevelopment@u-46.org
This course will use the common understandings of Learning Targets, Language Targets, Success Criteria and Tasks gained in the first two courses and provide three structured activities to help groups of educators plan on how to implement their learning in their classrooms. Groups of educators will unpack standards, complete a task action plan, and reflect on formative and student self-assessment planning. This course was designed to address the feedback from U-46 educators for additional time to plan and reflect and still align with the goals of the DCD for assigned activities aligned with the District Strategic Plan. The link to enroll in this course can be found at the end of the Target and Task Alignment course.
Why do I have to take the first two courses?
We believe that even educators that have taken Academic Teaming 101 and 201 could benefit from a common understanding of these key concepts. Words like tasks and learning targets have been used before with a variety of different meanings and it is important to our U-46 Rising work that we all mean the same thing. If you are familiar with both, then we anticipate that you will move through the courses more quickly than educators without that experience. As we continue to plan out learning sequences we will look for opportunities to allow for different entry points based on experience.
What if not all the teachers I plan with have taken the two courses? Can we participate in the task planning?
No. In order to enroll in the task planning, all educators must have taken the two courses. Again, the intention is for all participants to have a common language so completing the courses will allow for the group to enter the task planning conversation on the same page. Consider completing the two courses together in the morning and then engaging in the task planning in the afternoon
Who decides the groups for the Task Planning? How many people do we need?
You do. It could be teachers that you already meet with or a different teacher you'd like to work with that day. The group should be at least 2 people and we would recommend larger groups plan to split into smaller discussion groups for some of the activities.
Can this count as a PLC meeting?
No. As this course will earn PD Hours that can be submitted for Professional Credits, this would be in addition to any PLC meetings that are part of the 16-week requirement.
