Suggestions to Improve Google Meet Performance
Clear browser history/cache (click here to learn how)
Limit the tile views on Meet and use Spotlight whenever possible
Turn your camera off
If possible, have all in-person learners exit the Meet or at the very least turn off their cameras
Close all unnecessary tabs and/or browser windows
Make sure you have exited all other programs on your computer. The only thing you should have open is Chrome and the program you are presenting with (like Powerpoint)
Uninstall any unnecessary Chrome extensions, including any Google Meet Grid View extensions. Google Meet has improved the product so that you can see up to 49 people in a grid. Here's a quick guide on how to remove extensions. Ifyou have other Meet extensions (like attendance, annotation, etc.), consider doing without them to see if that improves performance
If you are presenting a video on the Meet, choose the "Present to a Chome tab" option for the best audio and video performance.
Whenever possible, present the content of your lesson on something OTHER THAN the Google Meet. For instance, if you are using a Google Slides document, consider using Pear Deck for Google Slides to present the lesson, or just share the link to the Slides file with students. The fewer video streams coming into and going out of your computer, the better the computer will perform.
