Throughout this year, the Student Services Counseling Department has been partnering with our Physical Education teachers to support students’ social and emotional growth during Wellness classes. Through co-taught lessons, counselors and PE teachers are working together to provide students with practical tools and strategies that support both mental and physical well-being.
Topics have included Emotion Regulation and Distress Tolerance (managing strong feelings and coping with stress in healthy ways), Wise Mind (balancing emotions and logic to make thoughtful decisions), Self-Efficacy (building confidence in one’s ability to succeed), Interpersonal and Communication Skills (developing healthy relationships and effective communication), and Substance Abuse Prevention. In 7th grade, students also participate in the MindWise program, which includes education on recognizing the warning signs of suicide and how to seek help for themselves or others.
By integrating these important life skills into Wellness classes, we are helping students strengthen resilience, build healthy relationships, and make positive, informed choices both in and out of school. A breakdown of the specific topics covered at each grade level is listed below.
